Lime is still produced in the traditional way at Meziad, in western Romania in the early 2000s. The rock is collected from local quarries and brought to family lime kilns. There, a dome of limestone is constructed around which the rocks are arranged, and the fire in the dome is heated for three days with an endless supply of wood. A high quality lime is produced, and sold in local markets.
